Scripted Ink. announces development investment in Cathryn Strickland’s ‘Exit This Way’

Scripted Ink is delighted to announce development investment in Exit This Way, a half-hour comedy drama by Pathways writer Cathryn Strickland.

Exit This Way follows the travails of medical intern, Alice Goodhound, an aspiring cardiologist who draws the short straw and is assigned to the palliative care ward in her first rotation. It is an irreverent, darkly funny and sensitive examination of an idea at the forefront of international, ethical discussion – the human right to die with dignity.

Scripted Ink board member Jacqueline Elaine is excited by this project. “Scripted Ink is delighted to be supporting Cathryn’s project. The international success of other half-hour dramas in recent times demonstrates that this format has the potential to capture big audiences and commercial success. As the world grapples with the ethical implications of assisted dying, it wonderful to see this subject being explored as intelligently and sensitively as Cathryn is doing with Exit This Way. This is a project that feels of its time”, Jacqueline said.

Cathryn has been working on her project for a number of months and has written several draft scripts. She is collaborating with Sue Smith (Mabo, Bastard Boys) and Pathways writer Emme Hoy on the project’s further development and is very excited by the prospects for it. “Scripted Ink’s support of ‘Exit This Way’, a dramedy about death and dying, has been a huge validation of a project very close to my heart. Scripted Ink’s funding has given me time and confidence to develop the series further, dig deeper and spend valuable time creating a package of materials that I can now take to Content London. Scripted Ink provides invaluable sustenance and support for screen writers. Shane Brennan’s philanthropy and vision is an incredible injection of generosity into our local industry. Thank you!”
